Blinds & Shades

Roman shades, roller shades, solar shades, cellular shades, woven wood shades and wood or faux-wood blinds — the hard-working layer under the drapery.

Under every great drapery design there is a hard-working layer that handles the Texas sun hour by hour — and Galaxy Design supplies that range too: Roman shades, roller shades, solar shades, cellular shades, woven wood shades, and wood and faux-wood blinds. Roman shades bring one continuous piece of fabric with horizontal folds — the softness of drapery in a shade's footprint. Solar shades work like sunglasses for the window: they preserve the outside view while cutting glare and heat, in openness factors from about 3 to 14 percent.

In Dallas the choice is mostly about west-facing glass. Cellular shades trap air in honeycomb cells and insulate; roller shades disappear almost completely when raised; woven woods warm up modern rooms with texture; and blinds give the finest slat-by-slat light control of all. Layered under custom drapery, these treatments do the daily work while the drapery does the dressing — and many rooms need only the shade, specified well.

What You Get with Our Blinds & Shades

Roman shades

One continuous fabric panel with soft horizontal folds — tailored, quiet, and coordinate-friendly with drapery fabrics.

Solar shades

View-preserving glare and heat control in 3%–14% openness — the answer for Dallas west glass and skyline views.

Roller shades

Clean, minimal shades that roll away to almost nothing — the modern default for condos and offices.

Cellular shades

Honeycomb cells that insulate against summer heat and winter chill while softening sound.

Wood & faux-wood blinds

Real wood warmth or moisture-tough faux wood for kitchens and baths, with slat-level light control.

Woven wood shades

Natural woven textures that filter light and warm minimalist rooms without fabric formality.

Options & Materials

Specify a shade by its job. View plus glare control points to solar shades — choose openness by exposure: lower openness (3–5%) for brutal west sun and screens, higher (10–14%) where the view matters most and the sun is gentler. Privacy at night points to Roman, cellular or roller shades with privacy or blackout fabrics. Insulation points to cellular. Then decide operation — corded, cordless or motorized (see our motorized page) — and whether the shade stands alone or layers under drapery panels, which is where a Galaxy Design consultation earns its keep: the two are specified together so colors, stack and sightlines compose.

How the Job Works, Step by Step

  1. 1

    Free consultation & measuring

It starts with a free consultation. We look at your existing openings, talk through what you want to change, take exact measurements and note anything unusual — out-of-square frames, deep sills, HOA rules — that affects the plan.

  2. 2

    Written quote, no pressure

You receive a written quote that spells out the product, the scope and the total price. No vague allowances, no pressure to sign on the spot. Take the time you need to compare.

  3. 3

    Order & scheduling

Once you approve, your products are ordered or made to the exact measurements from step one. We confirm an installation date that fits your schedule and tell you how long the work will take.

  4. 4

    Installation day

Our installers protect floors and furniture, remove the old units, fit the new ones, seal and trim the openings, and test every unit before they leave. Most homes are finished the same day.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough & cleanup

We walk the finished work with you, show you how everything operates, register any warranty paperwork and take all packaging and old materials away. The room is left clean and ready to use.

Care & Maintenance

Shades and blinds reward light, regular attention: dust blinds slat by slat with a microfiber mitt monthly, vacuum fabric shades with a soft brush on low suction, and spot-clean solar and roller shades with a damp cloth and mild soap — never soak a shade. Operate each shade fully once a week or so; mechanisms that sit still for months are the ones that stick. Keep cords tidy and out of reach of children and pets, and ask about cordless or motorized operation for any room where a cord is a worry. If a shade's lift goes uneven, stop forcing it and call — a cord or clutch fix early is cheap, a torn fabric is not.

What Affects the Price?

No two homes in Dallas are the same, so honest pricing starts with a look at your actual project. These are the factors that move the number most:

  • Treatment type — blinds vs fabric shades vs solar
  • Fabric and openness selection
  • Window size and number of shades
  • Operation — corded, cordless or motorized
  • Layering with drapery in the same design

For general planning numbers, see our Price Guide — those are market ranges, not our prices. Your exact, written price comes free with your quote: call (866) 215-3173.

Blinds & Shades — Frequently Asked Questions

Solar shade openness — what do the percentages mean?+

Openness is how much of the fabric is open weave. Lower openness (around 3–5%) blocks more sun and glare with less view; higher (10–14%) preserves more view with lighter control. West-facing Dallas glass usually wants the lower end; we confirm against your exposure at the consultation.

Roman shades or drapery — which for a bedroom?+

They do different jobs. Roman shades give a tailored, space-saving treatment that can carry blackout lining for sleep; drapery adds softness, height and sound absorption. Many bedrooms end up with both — shade for function, panels for finish.

Are faux-wood blinds a downgrade from real wood?+

For kitchens, baths and humid rooms they are the upgrade — faux wood shrugs off moisture that warps real slats. In dry living spaces real wood's grain and lighter weight still win on looks. We will tell you honestly which rooms suit which.

Can shades be motorized later?+

Some can be retrofitted, many cannot — it depends on the product and tube size. If motorization is even a future maybe, say so at the consultation so we specify a shade that can grow into it.

How much do blinds & shades cost?+

The honest answer is that it depends on size, material and the condition of the existing opening. Beware of anyone who quotes a firm price without measuring. Galaxy Design measures first and then gives you a written quote with the full price — free — so you can compare it properly.

How long does a typical blinds & shades project take?+

Measuring and ordering take the first part of the timeline; the on-site work for most homes is completed in a day. Larger or custom projects take longer, and we give you the schedule in writing before you commit, so you can plan around it.

Do you offer free estimates?+

Yes — call (866) 215-3173 and we will arrange a free consultation and written quote. There is no obligation and no pressure to decide on the spot.

Do you serve my part of Dallas?+

Galaxy Design serves the areas listed on our Service Areas page. If your neighborhood is close to a listed area but not named, call us — we will tell you straight away whether we can reach you.

What should I prepare before installation day?+

Clear the area around each opening, take down curtains or blinds if we are not replacing them, and move fragile items away from the work zone. Our team protects floors and furniture, and removes the old units and packaging when the job is done.

Can blinds & shades be customized for unusual sizes or shapes?+

In most cases, yes. Arches, angled tops, oversized openings and out-of-square frames are measured individually and made or ordered to fit. Bring us the awkward opening — it is usually the one that benefits most from a custom solution.

What information helps my quote be accurate?+

Rough measurements (width × height in inches), a photo of each opening, and a note about what you want to change. Send those when you call (866) 215-3173 and your written quote will be faster and closer to the final number.

What happens if something is not right after the job?+

Call us. Galaxy Design stands behind its work: if something we supplied or installed is not right, we come back and make it right. That is how a local business keeps its name — one fixed problem at a time.
