How do I get a free consultation?+

Call (866) 215-3173 — the number is toll-free — or email info@galaxy-design.com. On the consultation you show us your windows and furniture, select designs and fabrics, and our designers discuss pricing and budget with you before anything is made.

Where is Galaxy Design located?+

3121 Main St #310, Dallas, TX 75226 — in Deep Ellum, just east of downtown Dallas. Hours are Mon–Fri 10am–4pm (Tuesdays from 10:30am); closed Saturday and Sunday. Call ahead — design consultations run by appointment.

What does Galaxy Design actually sell?+

Custom drapery and curtains, elegant drapery packages with all hardware included, decorative drapery hardware (crowns, scrolls, holdbacks), blinds and shades — Roman, roller, solar, cellular and woven wood — shutters, and motorized curtains and shades. Our listing category is Window Installation Service.

Do you only dress windows, or cover them?+

Dress them — that is the house philosophy in one line. A covering hides a window; a dressing composes panels, sheers, top treatments and hardware so the window becomes the room's best feature while still doing the work of privacy and light control.

Do you work outside Dallas?+

Our studio serves Dallas and the areas on our Service Areas page — Deep Ellum and downtown, Uptown, Highland Park, Lakewood, Richardson, Plano and Irving. Galaxy Design's drapery packages also ship across the USA for DIY installation with design guidance by phone and video call.

Can you do commercial work — restaurants, hotels, offices?+

Yes — homes, restaurants, businesses, nightclubs, office buildings, hotels and commercial buildings are all part of the work Galaxy Design describes. Commercial projects start the same way: a consultation, measurements, and a written design and price.

How is custom drapery different from store-bought curtains? (Custom Drapery & Curtains)+

Store curtains come in fixed sizes and unlined or lightly lined fabric. Custom drapery is measured for your window, made from your chosen fabric with proper lining and fullness, and finished at the exact length your room needs — the fit and the fall of the fabric are visibly different.

Can I see fabrics before I decide? (Custom Drapery & Curtains)+

Yes — samples are part of the process. Reviewers mention getting samples right away and a huge variety to choose from. At your free consultation we narrow the library to the colors and patterns that work with your furniture.

What exactly is included in a drapery package? (Elegant Drapery Packages)+

The panels, the sheer layer where the design calls for it, the valance or top treatment, and all drapery hardware needed to hang the look. The package listing for each design spells out its contents — and everything for creating the look is included.

My windows are an odd shape — is there a package for that? (Elegant Drapery Packages)+

Very likely. The package range includes designs for corner windows, transom windows, arch windows and side-by-side windows and doors. Bring measurements and a photo to the consultation and we will match the design to the geometry.

What is a drapery crown, and how does it work? (Drapery Hardware & Accessories)+

A crown is a decorative metal piece mounted above the window. It has a wire on the back that allows drapes or a valance to be hung from it, so the scrollwork itself becomes the top treatment. Crown sets come in 2-piece and 3-piece combinations for different widths.

Can I buy hardware without buying drapery? (Drapery Hardware & Accessories)+

Yes — hardware, holdbacks and accessories are part of the range in their own right, and upgrading hardware is one of the cheapest ways to make existing drapery look designed. Call (866) 215-3173 with your window width and a photo.

Solar shade openness — what do the percentages mean? (Blinds & Shades)+

Openness is how much of the fabric is open weave. Lower openness (around 3–5%) blocks more sun and glare with less view; higher (10–14%) preserves more view with lighter control. West-facing Dallas glass usually wants the lower end; we confirm against your exposure at the consultation.

Roman shades or drapery — which for a bedroom? (Blinds & Shades)+

They do different jobs. Roman shades give a tailored, space-saving treatment that can carry blackout lining for sleep; drapery adds softness, height and sound absorption. Many bedrooms end up with both — shade for function, panels for finish.

Are motorized treatments worth it for normal-height windows? (Motorized Window Treatments)+

Sometimes — the honest test is use. If a treatment is opened and closed daily, motorization gets used daily and protects the fabric. The strongest cases are tall, wide, layered or hard-to-reach windows, and homes where cords are a safety concern.

What happens in a power outage? (Motorized Window Treatments)+

Battery-powered treatments keep working — they are not on house power. Hardwired treatments wait for power like everything else, and most can be gently moved by hand in the meantime; we confirm the override behavior of your specific product at installation.

Do shutters help with Dallas heat? (Shutters & Window Installation)+

Yes — closed shutters put an insulating air gap and a solid barrier between west sun and the room, and tilted louvers let you keep daylight while bouncing direct sun off the ceiling. They are among the strongest treatments for heat control, short of exterior shading.

Shutters or drapery for a formal living room? (Shutters & Window Installation)+

Different statements: shutters read as architecture, drapery as furnishing. Formal Dallas living rooms often take both — shutters for structure and light control, side panels for softness. The consultation can mock the choice against your room's photos.
